Oh hi!
I ask myself that powerful question every morning! I love putting my brain to work and coming up with answers!
I have not blogged in a while so I thought I would share some thoughts about this very unique time in all of our lives.
I posted something on Instagram the other day and I think it was worth repeating:
If you want to do 10 push ups, do 10 push ups. If you want to watch Netflix for 10 hours, watch Netflix for 10 hours. If you want to come out of this quarantine with a new skill, a side hustle and more knowledge - good for you, do that. But don’t let an “inspiring” | shaming meme trick you into thinking you are doing this wrong. You got this. And you get to choose what “this” is. There is no trophy for who quarantined best.
I think it is so important for us to have compassion for ourselves and others always regardless of where we are at or we think we are “supposed” to be at.
Trigger Warning: DJT - Just kidding! HA!
I have been purposely working on my compassion and patience every day. I watch Mr. Trump press conferences everyday. I know this seems silly but I look at it as a growth opportunity.
I have a very different world view but
I see myself as loving everyone and having compassion for everyone REGARDLESS of them.
This is a gift I give myself.
I don’t care if you are my best friend, my ex husband, a stranger on the street or the President of the United States who I didn’t vote for. I love you. I want the best for you.
Watching him everyday gives me SUCH a wonderful chance to allow myself a negative emotion, see how that judgement of him feels (icky) and then shift to compassion (always feels good).
I don’t need to think he is a great man or a great president - he is my fellow human being.
So this is a daily practice I give myself everyday. And as I see people losing their minds on Facebook about how other people are doing the right and wrong thing right now - I pause - and I extend them the same compassion.
You can do whatever works for you. You can go on Facebook rants. You can get on fights with people on Twitter.
Doing that is simply not in line with my greater life purpose.
Other great things that I am focused on right now:
I am doing lots of FREE online courses! iTunes University! Coursera! Udemy! All these classes! I have never enjoyed learning so much!
My tools as a coach are becoming so much richer as I continue to increase my knowledge and skills. I love combining my love of psychology, philosophy and coaching!
I developed a new tool- randomly- that I have been using with my clients - I am having them “count” ABCDEFGH - and when you get to the letter I - say “I have a choice”
To think different.
To feel different.
To act different.
Choice is one of our most powerful weapons!
Use this to work on your cognitive flexibility and to hit refresh on your brain browser!
It is like a lovely 10 second interruption of any negative thought loops!
I started meditating! I love it! I use Headspace or The Honest Guys on Apple Music!
I coached myself into getting good night sleeps! This is insane! After years of sleeping issues, I finally am sleeping well. The meditation and a better night time routine are working. I am shook by this! HA!
Left my hair place after 20 years which felt like leaving a cult! I figured out how to just order hair online and will be saving thousands of dollars a year! This is so liberating!
The joy of online shopping! I love Amazon Fresh and Target! And I continue to update my wardrobe (5 items in, 5 items out!)
I am loving the company of myself! I am loving all this time with my family! I am loving my clients! I am loving extra cuddles with my dog.
I feel I am living in line with my core values and great life purpose!
This has been such a wonderful reset of all my reference points. I have slowed down. I am deeply intentional all day long with how I wish to spend my time.
I am not looking for “back to normal” or “new normal” I am constantly evolving into new versions of myself, COVID-19 or not.
I miss soccer. I miss hugs.
But until then, I am focused on what can I learn about myself during this time and how I can contribute to the world in a meaningful, loving, compassionate, gentle and kind way.
Thanks for being so lovely and watching my Instagram story and letting me be part of your life! I am here if you need me in any way! Make sure you follow my Instagram story! I give the best hugs daily! GET IN HERE!
Love, Buck
PS - here I am getting some fresh air! I have stayed at home for 6 weeks and only briefly go outside to eat some sun and breathe some gorgeous Colorado air!
